Since I'm leaving, since I have amassed quite a large collection of books and a few DVDs, and since I wanted to do something beneficial for the city before I leave, I've decided to hold a silent auction.
100% will go to charity--in fact, you, the reader, get to decide which one! The auction begins on April 16th and ends at 10pm on April 21st.
Every item has a story: the Harry Potter book I paid a small fortune for at Travessa in Ipanema the day after it came out, Lolita, which I bought at the Rio Bienal and finished in three days, or Cryptonomicon, which I escaped to during parts of my vacation with the in-laws. Then of course there are the two copies of Chicken Soup, which include my story, the first to be published in a book!
See the list and rules after the jump!
Rules
1. Preference given to people located in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
2. You can bid if you live in Brazil, but you will have to pay shipping fees and any fees incurred from money transfer/Paypal.
3. If you want to bid on an item, write the title or the ID# in the comments along with your bid.
4. Bids will only be accepted in the comments section; please do not send bids via email.
5. Item pick-up in Rio will take place between 4/22 and 4/26 to ensure everyone is accommodated.
6. Winners will be notified by email with pick-up date, time, and location. Pick-up will be in several locations in Zona Sul.
7. Rio winners must pay in cash when picking up their items.

2c. Eat, Pray, Love.
R$25 (sorry Mariel :)
Rachel, I am not sure how to pay for it, since I am currently in the US. But if I win the bid we could figure out a way.
By the way, I really recommend wathing the TED talk from Elizabeth Gilbert (author of "Eat, Pray, Love"). TED is a Technology,Entertainment, and Design invitation only conference. A lot of the talks are online and are only 18 minutes long.
Elizabeth's is about "a different way to think about creative genius": http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/elizabeth_gilbert_on_genius.html
